The Land
Located in the tranquil village of Sărata (population 373) in the county of Sibiu, Transylvania, Carul Mare is nestled at an elevation of 420 meters, at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains, with many paths to the Romanian virgin forest.
Mazes of walks, hikes, and bike trails wind through the village and will guide you to serene forest clearings and pristine ancient woodlands, where wildlife abounds.
The natural environment is at the heart of everything we do and options for outdoor pursuits are nigh-on infinite!
The Spirit
Carul Mare is an extension of our home and hospitality. As a family, we understand the fundamental importance of taking care of and respecting nature and the people around us.
Having lived abroad and traveled widely, Carul Mare reflects the influences and inspirations from our different cultures.
It is a place for sharing knowledge and embracing nature, aiming to propose a sustainable, ecologic way of living, focusing on what nature offers us.
We are investing thought, attention, and love into creating a humble site to provide guests with the same freedom and tranquility that we are fortunate to experience here.
In addition, we provide a residency space dedicated to creative expression and cultural events.
Since 2021 we have been in the process of building a "Learning Garden" with the help of Fundaţia Comunitară Ţara Făgăraşului and Fondului Științescu Sibiu. In this garden, we aim to teach children about the fundamentals of Permaculture and its associated benefits.
